Friday Five: Triathlon Love!

I am participating in the Trifecta Friday Five link-up hosted by Cynthia at You Signed Up for What, Courtney at Eat, Pray, Run DC, and Mar at Mar on the Run.  This week's theme is five things that you love.  I decided to hone in on my love for triathlons and share my 5 favorite things about them that make my heart happy!!

1. Friends:  I have met some wonderful friends through triathlon training.  A long run with good friends is my "Happy Hour" or a 50 mile bike ride with the girls is my Saturday "Shopping Spree".

(The Wonderful Group of Women in my Triathlon Training Group in 2012 when I started!)

2. Endorphins:  Endorphins reduce the sensation of pain and can elevate emotions.  Ahhhh....nothing and I mean Nothing alleviates stress better for me than a good hard long run!!

(Quassy 70.3 Run Course, I managed a smile, despite the crazy hills!)

3. "Smelling the Roses": A long bike ride is often an opportunity to stop and "smell the roses".   Biking gives me an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and slowly take in some of the beautiful scenery here in Maine.

(I stopped to smell the roses during the Dempsey Challenge last Fall and bumped into this guy...McDreamy, indeed!! )

4. Food: I love to eat!  Endurance training allows to me occasionally indulge in some wonderful higher calorie meals, guilt free!

(Lobster and Asparagus Cream Sauce over Pasta, prepared by my Husband after I did a 16 mile run!)

5. Bling: Competing in Triathlons & Marathons over the past 4 years has brought a lot of Bling into my life!

(Disney Marathon 2012: The medal is huge and is very heavy, but nothing better than Mickey
Mouse)

After a very difficult triathlon season this past Summer, writing this post was so refreshing, as it is a great reminder of some of the reasons I love triathlon.

How was your week? What makes you happy & why?  Do you have any big events this Fall/Winter?

  6. My off-season doesn't have any goal races. I'm entering a few cyclocross races for fun (I don't peak or taper, they are all train thru) and then a few running races as pace time trials to get updated paces for my coach to write my workouts. I will start up again with road cycling races in March and then triathlon in May/Jun. Great post - I can identify with a lot of your comments!
